Dermody Properties Grants a $5,000 Annual Thanksgiving Capstone Award to St. Mary’s Food Bank

We have announced the recipients of our annual Dermody Properties Thanksgiving Capstone Award. St. Mary’s Food Bank, which helps feed hungry families throughout Phoenix and nine Arizona counties, has received $5,000 to assist in its mission to end hunger across the state.

Like most nonprofit organizations in 2020, St. Mary’s Food Bank faced many challenges in its operations due to the pandemic, including loss of volunteer support and food drives. Since March, the organization has adapted to ensure it could continue its mission and has successfully delivered the most food in its history. Through launching pop-up food distribution sites, hiring temporary labor and additional cleaning crews and investing in more personal protective equipment, St. Mary’s Food Bank has since safely provided 250,000 pounds of food to people in need throughout Arizona.

Every year, senior management at Dermody Properties selects the recipients for the annual Thanksgiving Capstone Award with the overall goal of helping nonprofit organizations address the increased need experienced during the holidays. This year, Douglas A. Kiersey, Jr., President at Dermody Properties, and Pat Gallagher, Southwest Region Partner at Dermody Properties, have specifically designated the St. Mary’s Food Bank as a recipient.

“As our nation continues to navigate through the challenges of this year, so many of our neighbors and their families are facing food insecurity,” said Kiersey. “We’re pleased to support an organization that is dedicated to the well-being of people in these communities and that continues to go above and beyond to ensure basic needs are met.”

“St. Mary’s Food Bank is an extraordinary organization that clearly has the best interest of the community in mind,” said Gallagher. “It’s an honor to be able to assist the organization in its ongoing efforts to end hunger, knowing that countless families will benefit from its programs and services.”

The Dermody Properties Annual Thanksgiving Capstone Award is uniquely directed each year by the executive management committee of Dermody Properties, which includes Chairman and CEO Michael C. Dermody; President Douglas A. Kiersey, Jr.; Partner and Chief Capital Officer Kathleen S. Briscoe; Chief Operating Officer Elizabeth Kauchak; Chief Financial Officer Douglas Lanning; and Partner and Chief Investment Officer Timothy Walsh.

“Every year, the Thanksgiving Capstone Award brings our company, our executive team and our communities come together to help those organizations who are truly making an impact in the lives of people in need,” said Dermody. “At Dermody Properties, this award has become a tradition to help ensure the communities in which we do business have adequate resources. With the COVID-19 pandemic, we know that now, more than ever, these gifts are critical to people in need.  We are pleased to support St. Mary’s Food Bank and recognize their efforts to fight hunger and food insecurity among our most vulnerable populations at a time when they need it most.”

Dermody Properties has selected five additional recipient organizations and will award $25,000 to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada in Sparks, Nev. and $5,000 each to the Elmhurst-Yorkfield Food Pantry in Elmhurst, Ill., GRACE in Grapevine, Texas, Feeding America of Riverside and San Bernardino in Riverside, Calif. and the American Heart Association in Newark, Del.
