Dermody Properties Presents Annual Capstone Awards

Dermody Properties Awards Food Banks Annual Capstone Award of $50,000

The executive management team of Dermody Properties recently announced the recipients of the company’s annual Capstone Award. The Food Bank of Northern Nevada (FBNN) received $35,000 to assist with its Mobile Pantry program, and the Peoria Area Food Bank (PAFB) received $15,000 to assist in its efforts to help those affected by the recent devastating tornado storms in central Illinois.

The Capstone Award is presented each year by Dermody Properties to one or more worthy nonprofit organizations to help them continue their services throughout the holiday season and the new year. The award was created by Dermody Properties as a way to give thanks at a special time of year.

“Giving back to our communities is a fundamental part of our mission at Dermody Properties,” said Michael Dermody, chairman and CEO of Dermody Properties. “Helping nonprofits through the Capstone Award and our employee-managed Dermody Properties Foundation has become a tradition for us. We are fortunate to be able to share our success with these two vital community organizations this year.”

The Food Bank of Northern Nevada is receiving the Capstone Award for its Mobile Pantry program. Mobile Pantry delivers perishable food, including fresh produce, directly to families and children in low-income neighborhoods throughout northern Nevada. In 2012, the program provided 1.2 million meals to low-income seniors and families, and 85% of the food was fresh, nutrient-dense produce. The Capstone Award will allow FBNN to distribute approximately 304,350 pounds of fresh food directly to those in need.

“We are so grateful to be the recipient for this extremely generous Capstone Award. Dermody Properties has been such a wonderful partner over the years in the fight against hunger in our communities,” said Cherie Jamason, president and CEO of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. “Our desire to distribute fresh nutritious food to those who need it most is made possible by generous gifts such as this one.”

The Peoria Area Food Bank provides food to more than 109 food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, rehabilitation centers, senior housing and youth centers. Additionally, the PAFB has 5 mobile food pantries that serve three counties located in the rural areas. PAFB will use the gift to continue supplying meals to families affected by the tornado storms that hit the community earlier this year.

“The Capstone Award is one way for Dermody Properties to give back to the communities where we do business,” said Brian Quigley, partner, Dermody Properties Midwest Region Office. “We could think of no better way to do so than to award this gift to the Peoria Area Food Bank, which continues to help our community in this time of need. We are thankful for the work they are doing.”

“This gift will help supply food to hundreds of families throughout the disaster area as well as the other counties we serve,” said Barb Shreves, director, Peoria Area Food Bank. “The Capstone Award will enable us to provide more fresh produce, not only to the rural areas, but to our pantry members as well.”

The Capstone Award is directed by the Executive Management Committee of Dermody Properties, which includes chairman and CEO Michael Dermody; president and partner Douglas A. Kiersey, Jr.; chief financial officer and partner Douglas Lanning; and partner Gregory Arnold.
