Creating change in logistics real estate through sustainability, diversity and dedication to mission
At Dermody Properties, our mission is to create satisfied customers by providing responsive service and innovative real estate solutions, thereby sustaining long-term relationships and customer referrals.
We abide by this mission in everything we do, and we appreciate Institutional Real Estate, Inc. (IREI) for giving a few members of our executive team – Michael C. Dermody, Doug Kiersey, Kathy Briscoe and Elizabeth Kauchak – the opportunity to share that with you. We hope you’ll enjoy this article and getting to know us a little better.
IREI: How has your mission statement driven your company in the past, and how does it drive action and strategy?
Michael Dermody: By the late 1980s, as our modest company had grown nationally and as we had evolved, so did the company culture and philosophy. It was then I realized the opportunity to involve the entire company to more formally state what it is that Dermody Properties stands for, and its values, so we created our Mission Statement that has endured to this day.
Today, I am still humbled when a potential investor in one of our funds reads our Mission Statement:
“To create satisfied customers by providing responsive service and innovative real estate solutions, thereby sustaining long-term relationships and customer referrals.”
It truly reinforces a culture, which, like the Mission Statement, has withstood the test of time. At Dermody Properties, we are stewards of a process, and we intend to leave things better than we found them. In my mind, this is what resonates in our Mission Statement.
One of the cornerstones of our mission is customer service, which permeates every layer of our organization. As a landlord, we’re in the unique position of having long-term relationships with our clients. This allows us to understand and respond to their needs and to understand how we can provide them the best customer service possible.
Our company’s vision of building for tomorrow transcends beyond real estate and is embedded in the DNA of our culture. Our philosophy of sharing in successes and giving back to the communities in which we do business is a vital part of our mission and vision for the future. The Dermody Properties Foundation, which is employee-managed and was formed in 1988, has put into place a structure and process to give back to our communities. The company wanted the people who do the hard work to be at the center of its giving decisions. Each year, we donate $200,000 to various causes, and since the Foundation was created, we have given more than $3.25 million to worthy nonprofit organizations and community causes.
