Marc Markwell

Marc Markwell joined Dermody Properties in mid-2004 as Development Manager. Since coming on board, Markwell has supervised over 3.2 million square feet of industrial space on the West Coast.  This extraordinarily talented, multi-faceted manager has experience in the areas of finance, human resources, business and property law, project management and construction management. The broad scope of his responsibilities with Dermody Properties involves management of all construction projects for the West Coast Operations, including due diligence, design, utility coordination, contract management, planning review and entitlements.

Prior to joining Dermody Properties, Markwell served as Business Manager for Granite Construction Company’s Nevada operations.   He supervised financial functions, legal disputes and claims, human resource activities and contract negotiations for this region.  During his tenure with Granite Construction, he spent the first three years as Project Manager of several projects.

Markwell is highly dedicated and extremely committed to serving his community, as evidenced by the multiple boards on which he actively serves.  He is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, and also devotes much of his time to working with industry organizations such as the Associated General Contractors where he is an Afficio Board Member and a Government Affairs Committee Member, and the Northern Nevada Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) as their Government Affairs Committee Chair.

His strong commitment to providing educational support for his primary field of construction, however, is demonstrated by his role as a teacher and interacting directly with students.  Markwell is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Nevada - Reno (UNR), his own alma mater, where he teaches construction.  This valuable class provides students with a basic and real-world understanding of the broad scope of contractual issues within the construction and development industry, and also helps to prepare them for professional careers in this field.

Markwell’s education began at UNR, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1995.  Throughout his educational career, Markwell rose to the top of his class as Outstanding Senior in the Class of 1995, and was the recipient of the Paul Quinlan Scholarship for Excellence in Community and University Activities.

After graduating from UNR, Markwell attended the McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific in Sacramento, California, where he received a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1998.  While matriculating there, he made the Dean’s List and was included in the Who’s Who:  American Law Students in 1996.
